World premiere for Bergman film
For the first time since Ingmar Bergman’s death in 2007, a new film based on one of his scripts is set to premiere. An adaptation of Bergman’s En själslig angelägenhet (A Matter of the Soul), this French film for television is entitled Une histoire d’âme.
Viktoria is picking through the threads of her life. But who is she? Where is she? The people she’s talking to yet we never get to see – do they actually exist?
En själslig angelägenhet, the monologue written by Ingmar Bergman in 1972, was originally conceived as a film, but ended up as a radio play first broadcast in Sweden in 1990, starring Jane Friedmann as Viktoria.
In 2011 French director Bénédicte Acolas’ stage adaptation of Une histoire d’âme was a hit in French theatres, not least because of the outstanding acting of Sophie Marceau (- Female Agent, Beyond the Clouds and the Bond film The World Is not Enough).
Marceau and Acolas have now teamed up once again for a film version of the production. This marks the first time that a script by Ingmar Bergman has ever been filmed without any production involvement whatsoever from the man himself.
The film is scheduled for broadcast on Arte France on 3 December at 22.25.
