Swedish Feature Jimmie to open Rotterdam Film Festival
Jimmie, in which director Jesper Ganslandt and his son Hunter play the leading roles, is opening the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) in January, a festival considered one of the most important worldwide.
– We are exuberant and honoured to be granted the opportunity for Jimmie to open the Rotterdam Film Festival! This film has been both the most challenging film and the most cross boundary project I have ever worked on. The fact that Rotterdam, known for selecting films which traverse into new, ground-breaking territory, has chosen Jimmie to kick off the festival makes it the perfect location for the film’s world premiere, says director Jesper Ganslandt.
Still in the production phase, Jimmie won the €50,000 Eurimages Lab Project Award for Most Promising Project in the New Nordic Films market at the Norwegian International Film Festival in Haugesund.
Jimmie is the story about 4-year old Jimmie who has to go on a journey with his Dad and leave his Mom at home. But the journey never ends, and no one seems to know where they are going. Except it is away from something.
Jimmie is Jesper Ganslandt’s fourth film, following Falkenberg Farewell (2006), The Ape (2009) and Blondie (2012). Ganslandt’s earlier films have been screened at film festivals such as at the Venice Days and the Toronto International Film Festival.
Produced by Fasad/ Juan Pablo Libossart, Hedvig Lundgren and Jesper Kurlandsky Jimmie received funding from the Swedish Film Institute’s feature-film commissioner Helen Ahlsson.
TriArt Film handles the Swedish distribution and the film will be screened at the Gothenburg Film Festival before national release in April 2018.
