Cinema Funding(2)
In order to strengthen cinemas in small towns and arthouse cinemas in larger towns and cities, the Swedish Film Institute awards funding to cinema owners for equipment upgrades, audience work and open screenings of film that has received launch funding. Funding is also awarded to organizers of cinema screenings who are not liable for VAT; this funding is called VAT compensation.
Funding to cinema owners for equipment upgrades
Upgrade funding is intended to help ensure that the cinema structure, primarily in small and medium-sized towns, is preserved and enhanced, and that there are cinemas of equal technical standard nationwide.
Funding to cinema owners for audience work
The aim of funding for audience work is, in the long term, to increase audiences and their opportunities to enjoy a varied range of film.
Funding to cinema owners for open screenings of film that has received launch funding
Funding for open screenings helps to enhance the cinema structure outside of the main cities, and to increase the dissemination of Swedish and foreign film to smaller towns. The funding refers to open screenings of Swedish and foreign film that has been awarded launch funding.
