Boys receive Grand Jury Award at AFI Fest
Boys by Isabella Carbonell was awarded the Grand Jury Award at AFI Fest in the Live Action Short section.
Jury Statement: “This film tackles the abominable with courage, confidence and dignity. It shows us humanity in the places where we would least expect to find it.
AFI Fest is one of the biggest festivals in North America. Boys premiered at Cannes in the La Semaine de la Critique/Critics’ Week and has been touring the festival circuit since.
Boys follows the shy Markus (Sebastian Hiort af Ornäs, nominated for a Guldbagge Award for the lead in Sebbe, 2010), in an institution for young sex offenders –and his only friend the violent Tobias. The film is produced by Jörgen Andersson och Kjell Åhlund, Doppelganger. It has been awarded production funding by the Swedish Film Institute, Film Commissioner Andreas Fock.
