Film Projectionists’ Workshop 2026

The Swedish Film Institute - with support from FIAF and ACE - is hosting a workshop for film projectionists with focus on analogue film from May 28-31st.

Workshop description

The goal of the workshop is to share and keep alive the knowledge and practice of analogue film projection in the Nordic countries. The workshop is aimed at projectionists with some experience in handling and projecting analogue film.

A preceding online distance learning program will provide a theoretical understanding of a variety of topics related to analogue film and its theatrical presentation (film formats, sound systems, projector mechanisms, etc).

During the workshop participants will receive a 35mm hands-on film projection training which includes handling analogue film prints, threading a projector, performing change-overs and more.

Dates

Workshop Filmhuset: May 28-31st
Online Distance Learning: week 17 and week 18, two appointments each week (4 sessions total)

Location

The workshop will take place at the Film House/Filmhuset, located in the city of Stockholm (Borgvägen 1-5, Cinemas). The projection booth is equipped with Philips DP70 for 35mm and 70mm film, Kinoton FP-38E for 35mm and 16mm film, as well as Kinoton FP18 for 16mm film.

Region

The workshop is open for candidates from the Nordic Countries (Danmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden) and Estonia. The workshop will be held in English.

Number of participants

Participants will be chosen through a selection process, and a total of 10-12 people will be accepted. Selected participants will be informed until the end of March 2026.

Deadline for submitting the application form was March 8th, 2026.

Financial support

The workshop is free of charge and lunches will be provided for participants during the workshop at Filmhuset. However, selected participants need to cover costs for travel and accommodation.

Selected participants who are affiliated with a cinema in Sweden that receives support from the Swedish Film Institute may be eligible for financial support covering 50% of travel and accommodation costs. Please note that the request for financial support must be submitted by the cinema.
